BIG Member Benefits and Services coming!!

Starting January 2012, the Florida Film Network will introduce a yearly membership fee. Your membership fee will allow our organization to provide many more benefits, like free networking events, monthly training workshops and classes, complete filmmaking equipment packages, with cameras, lighting, and sound equipment to make your films, with free checkout and/or deep discount rentals, funding grants for selected film projects, and more.

We want to remove all of your obstacles to making films, like cast & crew, equipment, lack of knowledge, and in some cases, money.  Please tell us what member benefits or services that would most help you. Send your ideas to Florida Film Network.

The 2011 Great Camera Shootout - If you use any of the latest large sensor cameras, from the Arri Alexa, down to the 7D, you'll want to check out part one of the 2011 Great Camera Shootout. They actually, compare the footage side-by-side, used the same lens on each camera, and made everything else equal, so you were seeing the real, untouched images. You will not believe how  well the "low-end" cameras stack up against the Alexa and the Red.

The Process of Breaking Down a Script

Breaking down a script is a systematic and fun procedure. 1. Read script through, with an open mind, as a spectator. 2. Talk to your team and establish the system you will employ – manual or software-driven? Which software? Decide. 3. Identify scene number. (Start at the beginning.) 4. Mark the portion (in eighths) of...

Get Your Own Damn Movie Soundtrack!

You’re probably wondering what to do about getting a great music track for your own damn movie that you’re producing. Because, let’s face it: music for your film or viral movie or music video is crucial for the trajectory of the emotional arc you want your audience to travel. Maybe you think it’s hopeless because...

First-Time Filmmaker F-Up #36 “The Assistant Director Is the Director’s Assistant”

The F-Up… Allow me to eliminate a popular misconception: the assistant director is absolutely not the director’s assistant. It is a misleading title that in no way, shape, or form involves fetching the director’s coffee, answering the phone, picking up dry cleaning, or doing anything else commonly thought of as “assistant” work. Screenwriting Tip #116: Raise Questions, Drop Hints, Leave Riddles Half-Solved…

Raise questions, drop hints, leave riddles half-solved — whatever it takes to keep them interested and turning the page. Novelists have a lot to teach us about this trick.
